Cushion Inspiration to transform your home

Spring is the perfect time of year to refresh and rejuvenate your home furnishings. New curtains and blinds can revitalise the look and feel of a room, but if you’re looking for a simpler and cheaper fix, introducing some new cushions can make a huge impact.

Cushions are a really easy way to add colour, texture and pattern to your home. They can provide a splash of colour to a neutral or monochrome room scheme, instantly creating style and interest. The coral cushions in the picture make a striking contrast against the black, white and grey background.

Using fabric and colours which match or tone with existing furnishings creates comfort and cohesion in a room. If there is already lots of pattern in the decor, choosing plain cushions can complement it and avoid it looking too busy and overwhelming, whereas in a plain room cushions can be used to introduce pattern and character. However, plain does not have to mean completely plain. The duck-egg blue cushions in the picture were made for a bedroom which had patterned curtains and wallpaper. The bow in a lighter tonal colour adds a design feature and the centre panels in the other two cushions have a subtle, light-reflecting pattern giving a soft sophistication.

Cushions provide a great opportunity to showcase a beautiful fabric, add some glamour with luxurious velvets and chenilles, create stylish embellishments with gorgeous pom-pom or bead trimmings and stamp your own personality on your interiors.

There is a wide range of shapes and sizes available with feather or polyester fibre pads and I make the covers with zips for easy removal. So it is a simple job to change the covers when required; maybe have one set for Spring/Summer and another for Autumn/Winter!
